Obesity is a BIG problem in the United States

Obesity is a topic that is no stranger to Americans and is something that has sky rocketed within the United States. In the past year obesity has increased from the previous decade to a whopping 39.6 percent. According to the National Health and Nutrition Survey over 100 million people in the United States are obese, 41.1 percent being women and 37.9 percent men.

This may not come as a surprise, but while the obesity rate in America increases so do junk-food sales. The convenience of these fast food restaurants seem to outweigh the health consequences for many people. Granted, I have fallen victim to the golden arches and sometimes you just have to have that hot greasy burger but the key word for these restaurants is SOMETIMES. Making a habit out of eating out can have a number of effects on your body including acne, weight gain or even heart disease.

But it's more than your diet that makes up a healthy lifestyle. Exercising is a key ingredient to this recipe and shockingly is on the rise. As obesity rates increase, so do the number of people that claim to participate in enough physical activity to meet the government standards. In 2018 roughly 24 percent of adults stated that they exercise in a way that included muscle strengthening and/or aerobic activity. This number is up from 21 percent in 2015.

I think it's clear than obesity in the United States is a BIG problem and is something that needs to be focused on today more than ever before. Even though there is not a clear solution to this record-breaking problem, there are steps and precautions that we as individuals can take to help combat this world wide issue. Only YOU can help yourself and make sure that you don't become a statistic!
